Moles, Tattoos & Skin Lesions
Moles, skin tags, tattoos and small growths are all removed by different methods, and the cost depends on the count, the size and the plan. Moles require special care because a changing or irregular lesion should be examined by a doctor before it is removed for cosmetic reasons. Tattoos often need many sessions.
Common causes
- Moles form from clusters of pigment cells and can be there from birth or show up later in life
- Skin tags and seborrheic keratoses develop with age and friction
- Tattoo ink placed in the dermis stays there for years
- Sun exposure can increase the number of pigmented lesions
- Genetics influence mole number
How doctors usually approach it
- Examine first
- A doctor looks at each lesion. Anything that is growing, bleeding or irregular needs a medical assessment, and removed tissue may be sent for testing.
- Laser or excision for small lesions
- Small benign spots are removed with a laser or by cutting, usually in one visit with local anesthetic.
- Tattoo removal in a series
- A picosecond or Q-switched laser breaks up ink over many sessions spaced weeks apart.
- Allow for healing
- Crusting, blistering or a dressing are common, and healing takes one to two weeks.
- Judge scarring risk
- Some removals leave a flat mark or a pale or dark patch, which affects the choice of method.

Budgeting for moles, tattoos and lesions: how plans are priced
For moles and small growths, the unit is usually the number of spots, sometimes with a minimum charge per visit. Size matters, and a large or deep mole may need a different method and cost more. Ask whether pricing is per lesion or by size bands, and whether numbing, a dressing and the follow-up check are included.
Testing is a separate item. If the doctor suspects anything unusual, the tissue may be sent to a laboratory, and that report is billed on its own. This is not an upsell: it is the step that makes removal safe. If a clinic offers to remove a changing mole without examination or testing, ask why.
Tattoos are priced by size and ink, and the number of sessions is the dominant factor. Dark ink typically fades faster than bright colors such as green, blue or yellow, and some pigments never clear completely. Sessions are spaced about six to eight weeks apart, so a full course takes many months and may need to continue after you leave Korea. Side effects include blistering, crusting, scarring and pigment change. Ask for the expected range of sessions rather than a single figure, and treat any promise of full removal with caution.

Why might a lab test be recommended?
To check that a lesion is benign. It is billed separately and is a safety step.
How many sessions does a tattoo take?
It depends on size, ink, color and your skin; many take several to ten or more, and some ink may remain.
Will removal leave a scar?
