PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) for Face and Scalp

Platelet-rich plasma comes from a small draw of your own blood, spun to concentrate platelets and then injected into the face or scalp. Because it uses your own blood and a single-use kit, the cost structure is different from a ready-made injectable. The plan is usually a short series, so total spend depends on the course.

How it works

A blood sample is drawn and placed in a centrifuge, which separates the plasma and concentrates the platelets. The resulting preparation is injected or applied with microneedling into the skin or scalp. Platelets release growth factors that are thought to support tissue repair and follicle activity. Research on PRP is mixed in quality; some studies suggest benefit for hair thinning and skin texture, and results vary by person and by preparation method. It is not a replacement for medicines, surgery or resurfacing where those are better suited.

Who it may suit

  • Early thinning of the scalp where follicles are still active
  • Mild skin dullness and fine texture changes
  • Support for acne scars as part of a plan with other treatments
  • Under-eye skin quality in selected cases
  • People who prefer an option based on their own biological material

The treatment day

  1. Review. The doctor checks your health history, medicines and the area to be treated.
  2. Blood draw. A small amount of blood is taken from your arm using a sterile kit.
  3. Preparation. The sample is spun in a centrifuge and the platelet-rich portion is separated.
  4. Application. After numbing, the PRP is injected or applied with microneedling to the target area.

Aftercare

  • Avoid touching or washing the treated area for the time the clinic advises
  • Skip alcohol, strenuous exercise and saunas for the first day
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medicines unless the doctor says they are fine
  • Use sunscreen on treated facial skin
  • Contact the clinic for fever, spreading redness or severe pain

Things to know first

  • Redness, swelling, bruising and tenderness are common for a few days
  • Low platelet counts, blood disorders, anticoagulant use, active infection and some cancers are reasons to avoid PRP
  • Under the eyes, bruising and swelling can be more noticeable and lumps are possible
  • Results vary and often need several sessions; some people notice little change
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding call for medical advice first

What the price of PRP depends on

A large part of the cost is the preparation, not the injection. Each session needs a sterile single-use kit, a blood draw and processing time, and clinics use kits that differ in how much plasma and what platelet concentration they yield. Ask what kit or system is used and whether the cost of the kit is built into the session figure.

The area and the method change the total. A face, an under-eye zone and a full scalp use different volumes of PRP and different amounts of the doctor's time. Delivery by injection and delivery with microneedling are priced differently, and a combination can add a line. Ask also whether the figure covers one draw used for the whole area.

Series are standard, often a few sessions several weeks apart with maintenance afterward. A package lowers the average cost per visit only when you attend all of them, and spacing may not suit a short stay. Add the consultation, numbing and any pre-treatment blood test to your estimate, confirm VAT, and ask how the clinic decides when to stop if the response is limited.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) for Face and Scalp: common questions

Why is PRP priced differently from a ready-made injectable?

It is made fresh from your blood with a single-use kit, so preparation time and equipment are part of the price.

Does a larger area cost more?

Usually yes, since more PRP and more time are needed. Ask exactly which area the figure covers.

Is a full course required?

Series are typical, but you can start with fewer sessions. The doctor advises after the first review.

Are blood tests extra?

Some clinics ask for tests before treatment and bill them separately. Ask in advance.
