Non-Ablative Fractional Laser (Fraxel-type)

Fraxel-type lasers heat the skin in tiny columns without removing the surface. Recovery is short, but results build over several sessions, which makes the course the unit that matters for cost.

How it works

A 1550 nm laser, and sometimes a 1927 nm wavelength, delivers energy to microscopic zones beneath an intact surface. The body replaces the treated tissue and lays down new collagen over weeks. The 1927 nm wavelength is more superficial and is used for sun damage and pigment. Cost depends on the device and wavelength, the area, the energy level and the number of sessions. Results vary by person.

Who it may suit

  • Mild to moderate acne scars and texture
  • Early wrinkles and sun damage
  • Surgical or stretch-mark-like scars when the doctor judges it suitable
  • People who want a few days of downtime rather than a week or more

The treatment day

  1. Consultation. The doctor selects wavelength, energy level and the number of sessions.
  2. Numbing. Numbing cream is applied for a set time.
  3. Laser passes. The laser is passed over the area in several sweeps, with cooling air.
  4. Aftercare. A soothing product is applied and instructions are given.

Aftercare

  • Redness, swelling and a bronzed look last two to four days
  • Skin may feel rough and flake lightly
  • Moisturize and avoid scrubbing
  • Use sunscreen consistently
  • Report blistering, pain or signs of infection

Things to know first

  • Swelling, dryness, acne-like flare, pigment change and, uncommonly, infection can occur
  • Cold-sore history may call for preventive medicine
  • Tanned skin, isotretinoin use and pregnancy usually mean waiting
  • Several sessions are needed and results are gradual
  • Results vary by person

What the price of non-ablative fractional laser depends on

Because the effect per session is mild, the number of visits matters most. Many plans include three to five sessions about a month apart. A per-session price repeated across the plan gives the realistic total, and package pricing may reduce it.

The device and wavelength set the next layer of cost. A branded system with two wavelengths may be priced higher than a single-wavelength device, and the 1927 nm step for pigment may be an add-on. Ask which wavelengths are in the quote.

Area and energy are the other lines. A full face is different from a scar patch, and a neck or chest session adds to the total. Check numbing cream, post-care products and tax so that the final figure matches the estimate.

Non-Ablative Fractional Laser (Fraxel-type): common questions

Why is it sold as a course?

Each session is mild, so improvement builds gradually. A course may lower the per-visit figure.

Does the second wavelength cost extra?

Sometimes. Ask whether it is in the quote or an add-on.

Is it cheaper than ablative laser overall?

Per session it may be, but more sessions can narrow the gap. Compare the course totals.

Is numbing included?

Confirm it on the estimate. Many clinics list it separately.
