Fat-Dissolving Injection

A lipolysis injection is a small-volume treatment for localized fat, most commonly under the chin. Cost depends on how many vials or milliliters the area needs, which product is used, and how many sessions are planned. It is not a weight-loss treatment and suits only a limited group of people.

How it works

The solution, commonly based on deoxycholic acid or a similar compound, is injected into small fat pockets. It damages fat cells, and the body then clears them over several weeks. Swelling is expected and can be notable at first. Because only limited areas can be treated per session, results usually need more than one visit and vary by person.

Who it may suit

  • People with a small, defined pocket of fat under the chin or along the jaw.
  • Those who want a non-surgical option and accept visible swelling for some days.
  • Adults with stable weight who have been assessed as suitable.

The treatment day

  1. Assessment. The doctor checks that the fullness is fat rather than muscle, gland or loose skin.
  2. Marking. The area is marked and the number of injection points is planned.
  3. Injection. The solution is injected in a grid; numbing cream or ice may be used.
  4. Interval and review. Sessions are spaced a few weeks apart, with a review before another is given.

Aftercare

  • Expect swelling, which can peak within the first days and take a week or more to settle.
  • Use cold compresses as advised and avoid pressing on the area.
  • Avoid heat and strenuous exercise for a day or two.
  • Contact the clinic if you have difficulty swallowing, severe pain or marked skin changes.

Things to know first

  • Common effects include swelling, bruising, tenderness, numbness and hard areas.
  • Rare complications include nerve injury causing an uneven smile and skin damage or ulceration.
  • Loose skin may look more noticeable after fat reduces.
  • Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection in the area, or with swallowing difficulty.
  • Results vary by person and by how many sessions are done.

What the price of a fat-dissolving injection depends on

The unit is the amount of solution, counted in vials, milliliters or injection points. A small chin needs less than a wider jawline or body area, so ask how much product the plan assumes and whether the quote covers one session or a set.

Sessions are the multiplier. Several sessions are commonly needed, usually a few weeks apart, and the doctor may stop early if enough change has occurred. A package can reduce the per-session figure, but it commits you, so ask what happens to unused sessions.

Product origin is the other point. Formulations differ by brand and approval status, and not all are equivalent. Ask for the name of the product and the manufacturer, and for consultation, numbing and VAT to be listed as separate lines.

Fat-Dissolving Injection: common questions

Is the price per area or per vial?

Both are used. Ask which applies and how many vials are expected for your area.

Why do I need more than one session?

Only limited amounts can be treated at once, and results build as the body clears the fat cells.

Is it a weight-loss treatment?

No. It is intended for small pockets of fat in people with stable weight.

Does the product brand matter?

Yes. Formulations differ, so ask for the product name and what it contains.
