Microneedling

A basic microneedling session without radiofrequency is often one of the lower-cost resurfacing options. The price depends on the area, the needle depth and what is applied to the skin during treatment.

How it works

A pen or roller with fine needles makes tiny channels in the skin, which prompts the body to repair and produce collagen. The doctor adjusts needle depth to the area, with shallower settings for the forehead and deeper for scars. Serums or other products may be applied during treatment, but ingredients should be suitable for use on broken skin. Plans often involve three to six sessions about a month apart. Cost follows area, add-ons and the number of sessions. Results vary by person.

Who it may suit

  • Mild acne scars and rough texture
  • Enlarged pores and dull skin
  • Stretch marks and some other scars when the doctor judges it suitable
  • People who want a lower-intensity option

The treatment day

  1. Consultation. The doctor looks at your skin and chooses depth and session count.
  2. Numbing. Numbing cream is applied for a set time.
  3. Needling. The pen is moved across the skin in passes, producing redness and pinpoint marks.
  4. Soothing. A calming mask or cream is applied.

Aftercare

  • Redness similar to sunburn lasts one to three days
  • Use gentle cleanser and moisturizer
  • Avoid makeup and strong actives briefly
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Report severe swelling, pus or fever

Things to know first

  • Redness, flaking, bruising, breakouts and, uncommonly, infection or pigment change can occur
  • Active acne, cold sores, eczema in the area and bleeding disorders usually require waiting
  • Needle devices must be sterile single-use, so ask about the tip
  • Pregnancy and isotretinoin use need discussion
  • Results vary by person and are gradual

What the price of microneedling depends on

Area and depth are the baseline. A full face costs more than a cheek section, and a scar-focused depth takes longer. Ask whether the quote covers the full face or selected zones.

The add-ons are the largest source of variation. A plain session, a session with a serum, and a session with a blood-derived product are three very different purchases. Ask the clinic to name each product, why it is used and whether it is optional.

Finally, think of the course. Multiple sessions are normal, and a package can lower the amount per visit. Check single-use tip charges, numbing cream, tax and whether the package has an expiry date.

Microneedling: common questions

Why do some sessions cost much more?

They may include serums, PRP or a larger area. Ask what is applied and whether it is optional.

Is the needle tip charged separately?

Sometimes. A sterile single-use tip is standard, so ask whether it is in the price.

How many sessions should I plan?

Often three to six, but it varies by person.

Is it cheaper than microneedle RF?

Per session it often is, but results and depth differ. Compare goals as well as prices.
