Fotona 4D

How it works

Fotona 4D is a facial protocol run on laser systems from Fotona that combine an Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm and an Er:YAG laser at 2940 nm. The protocol is made up of four stages that each use a different mode, ranging from work inside the mouth on the cheeks, to light surface work, to deeper heating with the Nd:YAG, and a final pass for skin texture. Each stage has a different intent, and the overall result varies by person.

• An intraoral stage is performed from inside the mouth, which is a procedure detail worth asking about rather than assuming.

How Fotona 4D affects a treatment quote

Unlike a single-mode device, Fotona 4D is a sequence, so the first cost question is which steps of the sequence you are paying for. A quote that says only 4D could mean all four stages or a shortened version. Ask the clinic to name the stages in writing.

The second question is cadence. Some clinics treat it as a single comprehensive visit, others as a short course, and the figure can be per visit or per course. Ask which. Fotona lasers can also be used in other protocols, so make sure the estimate describes the 4D facial sequence and not another treatment on the same system. Numbing approach, VAT and aftercare items are separate lines, and the doctor sets the final plan at the exam.
