Fraxel
Fraxel is a non-ablative fractional laser sold as a series, with two wavelengths that serve different concerns.
How it works
Fraxel, from Solta Medical, is a non-ablative fractional laser. The 1550 nm wavelength creates microscopic columns of heat in the dermis without removing the surface, and it is used for texture, acne scars and fine lines. The 1927 nm wavelength acts closer to the surface and is used for pigment and sun damage. The skin looks pink or bronzed for a few days afterwards, and results build across several sessions and vary by person.
Good to know
- Two wavelengths mean two different plans, and a clinic may combine them in one visit or run them in separate series.
- A Fraxel course is typically several sessions weeks apart, so one visit and a full course are different numbers.
- Pricing is usually by treated area, such as face only or face with neck.
- Solta Medical also makes Thermage FLX, so the name on the estimate should be Fraxel.
How Fraxel affects a treatment quote
Begin with the wavelength. A quote for 1550 nm texture work and a quote for 1927 nm pigment work are different services, and a clinic that combines them should show both. Without the wavelength, a total is hard to compare.
Then clarify how many visits it covers. A course price spreads the cost across the sessions but fixes you into the plan, so ask about stopping early. Ask also what area is included, how numbing is handled, and whether post-care products are in the figure. Downtime of a few days is part of planning a treatment with a visible flush, though it is not a cost line. The doctor confirms settings at the exam.
Fraxel: common questions
Does Fraxel need a course of sessions?
Usually, yes. The number depends on the concern, and the quote should say whether it covers one visit or several.
Why do two wavelengths appear on estimates?
They serve different concerns, so a combined plan can include both. Each may be listed apart.
Is numbing cream included?
It might not be. Ask for it as a line so that it is not a surprise.
