HydraFacial (Aqua Peel)
HydraFacial is a hydradermabrasion facial: cleansing, exfoliation, gentle suction of pore debris and a serum step, all through one device. Clinics usually sell it as a named program, and the program name alone does not tell you what is in the session. This page explains which parts of the bill change from one quote to the next.
How it works
A single handpiece with a spiral-tipped head moves across the skin while a liquid solution loosens dead cells and surface oil. Suction draws that debris out of the pores. Separate solutions are then applied, typically an acid-based exfoliating step, an extraction step and a hydrating or antioxidant serum. The device works only on the outer layers of the skin, so it refreshes the surface rather than changing deeper structure. Results vary by person and fade as the skin renews itself, which is why the treatment is usually repeated on a schedule rather than done once.
Who it may suit
- Skin that looks dull or congested but is not inflamed
- Visible blackheads and surface oil in the T-zone
- A low-downtime session before an event or a flight
- People who want a gentler step between stronger treatments
- Maintenance between laser or injectable visits, if the doctor agrees
The treatment day
- Skin check. The practitioner looks at your skin type, current products and any recent treatments to decide which program level fits.
- Cleanse and exfoliate. The handpiece applies a cleansing and exfoliating solution to loosen dead cells and oil.
- Extraction. Suction removes debris from the pores. A manual extraction may follow on stubborn areas.
- Serum infusion. Hydrating or antioxidant serums are applied, sometimes with a booster chosen for your concern.
- Finish. Sunscreen is applied and you are told how to treat the skin over the next day or two.
Aftercare
- Use sunscreen daily, since fresh exfoliated skin burns more easily
- Keep products simple for 24 hours and avoid strong acids or retinoids unless the doctor says otherwise
- Skip hot saunas and heavy exercise on the day of treatment
- Moisturize if the skin feels tight
- Contact the clinic if redness or stinging lasts beyond a day or two
Things to know first
- Active acne flares, open sores, sunburn or eczema on the treatment area usually mean the session should wait
- Recent isotretinoin use, chemical peels or laser resurfacing can make skin too fragile for suction and acids; tell the doctor first
- Mild redness, tightness or stinging can occur, and sensitive skin may react to the acid or serum step
- Rosacea and very reactive skin may need a modified program or a different treatment
- It does not treat deep wrinkles, laxity or established scars
What the price of HydraFacial depends on
The first variable is the program level. Clinics often offer a basic cleanse, a mid-level session with extraction and boosters, and a longer one that adds extras such as lymphatic or LED steps. A quote that says only HydraFacial leaves open which level is being sold. Ask for the steps listed in order, and ask how many minutes the session runs.
The second variable is the booster or serum. Boosters are individually packaged ampoules, so each one adds a line. Some clinics count one booster as part of the base program, others charge per booster. Also ask whether the single-use tip is billed within the session or separately, and whether VAT is shown on the line. Because the treatment is repeated, a series of visits changes the arithmetic: a package may lower the per-visit figure, but it commits you to a schedule that suits your skin and your travel dates.
Finally, check what sits next to the facial. A consultation fee, a take-home kit and any add-on mask or LED step can each appear as a separate charge. Comparing two quotes only works once both list the program level, the number of boosters and the tax status.
HydraFacial (Aqua Peel): common questions
Why do two HydraFacial quotes differ so much?
They often cover different program levels, a different number of boosters or a different session length. Compare the listed steps, not the name.
Is a booster included in the base session?
It depends on the clinic. Ask whether a booster is part of the program and what each extra one adds to the quote.
Will a package of visits lower the cost?
It can lower the per-visit figure, but only if you attend every session within the validity period. A single session is reasonable if you are unsure how your skin responds.
Does the quote include the doctor consultation?
Not always. Ask whether a skin check is part of the line or a separate fee, and who performs it.
